Disability Alliance challenge to Government DLA plans.

Disability Alliance does not believe the Government has yet taken on board the severity of concerns surrounding DLA proposals.
By Kevin Webb

Disability Alliance has worked hard to reflect disabled peoples views and concerns in the last year since Government DLA plans were announced. Sadly, they do not believe the Government has yet taken on board the severity of concerns surrounding DLA proposals.

They are working with DWP to try and secure action before the Welfare Reform Bill is enacted (which DWP expect to be in November/December 2011). However, DA Board took a decision to issue a ‘letter of claim’ to DWP last week based on legal advice from Unity Law and others as well as the views of members and subscribers who responded to their survey on the issue. The letter of claim outlines the nature of their concerns again, as well as how they believe a Welfare Reform Act might be challenged if DWP does not address the concerns. We all hope DWP will act now to avoid a potential legal challenge later.

Further information on the potential challenge is available on Disability Alliance website at: http://www.disabilityalliance.org/dlachallenge.htm
