Mary's Story
Mary is one of our members. She describes how our Information and Advice Service helped her
Mary became disabled due to a failing knee joint and found she was becoming a prisoner in her own flat. So that she could get out and about, she bought an electric scooter.
However, the manager of her retirement flat refused to let her park her scooter in the integral garage. Mary contacted Voice for Disability for information and advice. We helped her win over the housing association to adopt a more disability friendly policy.
Mary says: ‘Thanks to support and advice from Voice for Disability, I’m mobile again! What’s more, I was given a ‘sender key’ to open the garage doors remotely. Now I am able to use my scooter to go along the sea front, visit the shops and the hospital. My scooter is the key to my freedom of the town.’
